Purpose of the Role
To lead the development of accurate, high-quality scientific materials for external and internal audiences, ensuring alignment with scientific standards, medical strategy, and regulatory compliance. The Team Lead is a key contributor in coaching the team and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of various scientific communication material such as manuscripts, symposia decks, posters, Q&A documents, and other non-promotional materials supporting HCP engagement, publications, and congress presence.
Main responsibilities:
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
· On-time delivery of assigned scientific materials
· Quality ratings from scientific reviewers and Medical Affairs
· First-time-right rate and feedback from QC and regulatory review
· Accuracy and compliance with journal, congress, and internal style guidelines
· Stakeholder satisfaction (Science Hub, Medical, Regulatory)
· Mentorship and coaching support provided to junior writers
Primary Accountabilities
· Serve as the Single point of contact to the HCP Brand leads and HCP Science Brand leads.
· Draft, edit, and finalise high-quality scientific content, including manuscripts, abstracts, slide decks, posters, advisory board materials, and HCP-facing educational content.
· Translate complex clinical and scientific data into clear, audience-appropriate messages.
· Ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with source data, internal scientific narratives, and publication standards.
· Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Science Hub, and Regulatory to ensure appropriate referencing, HCP claims validation, and compliance.
· Adapt scientific content into templated or modular formats suitable for localisation and omnichannel use.
· Review work from junior writers, offering scientific, editorial, and structural guidance.
· Coach and develop expert and senior writers or similar roles (on content/methods/processes).
· Contribute to overall quality enhancement by ensuring high scientific standards for the output produced by the HCP Science Content Hub
· Remain current with journal and congress requirements, industry standards and internal SOPs.
· Track deliverables using workflow systems (e.g. iEnvision, PromoMats) and manage version control and referencing integrity.
· Provide editorial and structural guidance to junior writers and review their work for quality and consistency.
· Ensure new technologies are leveraged to enhance efficiency, improve turn-around time and maintain quality while innovating on the content presentation and story-narration.
· Own and continuously improve internal SOPs and style guides. Ensure process issues or bottlenecks are resolved timely.
· Deliver structured competitor intelligence mapping, focusing on scientific narratives, claims, publications, and platforms to highlight gaps, opportunities, and differentiation for Opella brands.
· Prioritise workload, assign tasks, and monitor progress across multiple projects and stakeholders.
· Champion a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous learning.

About you:
Education & Qualifications
· Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or Medicine (PhD, PharmD, MSc preferred)
· Certification in medical/scientific writing (e.g. AMWA, EMWA) is desirable
Experience & Technical Skills
· At least 7–9 years of experience in scientific writing within healthcare, pharma, or medical communications
· Strong understanding of ICMJE, GPP, journal and congress standards
· Demonstrated ability to handle complex data and translate it into audience-relevant content
· Experience working within matrixed environments and interacting with scientific and commercial teams
· Familiarity with reference management tools (e.g. EndNote) and content workflow platforms (e.g. Veeva Vault, iEnvision)
· Excellent writing, editing, attention to detail, and communication skills
