The Staff Software Developer plays a pivotal role in architecting and delivering next-generation software that powers advanced Mass Spectrometry platforms at one of the world's leading life sciences companies. You will tackle deeply technical challenges—from real-time instrument control to intelligent data analysis—and your work will directly impact scientists and researchers worldwide. You will partner closely with software application teams, research associates, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape the software products and platform capabilities that define our next wave of innovation.
This position reports to the Software Development Manager, Chief Software Architect, and is part of the Software Department located in Concord, Ontario, Canada. This is an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Analyze complex problems and deliver creative, well-architected solutions grounded in solid design principles—balancing functional requirements, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Design and develop critical platform infrastructure components leveraging advanced concepts such as threading and asynchronous programming.
Build high-complexity modules and subsystems for real-time analytical instrument control and data processing using intelligent algorithms.
Evaluate, recommend, and champion modern software development technologies, tools, and practices—including AI-assisted development workflows—to continuously raise the engineering bar.
Serve as a technical leader and mentor to other team members; conduct peer reviews of requirements specifications, design documents, and code to uphold quality and consistency across the team.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Extensive professional experience (9+ years) in designing and developing applications using object-oriented principles (OOP/OOD). Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in C#/.NET.
Strong experience with the design and implementation of n-tier architectures, reusable component libraries, and development frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams comprising both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Familiarity with software modelling techniques (e.g., UML, C4) to communicate and document the design and architecture of software systems.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Mass Spectrometry and/or other analytical instrument software domains.
Cloud technologies and services (e.g., Azure, AWS, or containerized deployments).
AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, and familiarity with agentic or AI orchestration frameworks (e.g., Semantic Kernel, LangChain).
Modern DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing strategies.
Hardware–software integration, or scientific data processing and analytics for large instrument datasets.
