Job Description
The Company
PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.
We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.
We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards. Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.
Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Meet our team
The POS Test Engineering team owns Quality Engineering for PayPal POS, a merchant-facing platform spanning mobile apps and hardware devices for SMBs worldwide. We are a centralized QE function actively moving to an automation-first, shift-left culture. You will work closely alongside POS feature teams day-to-day, while reporting into and collaborating with the Senior Manager of POS Test Engineering and your fellow QEs across the SMB org.
What you need to know
PayPal POS sits at the heart of how merchants run their businesses every day. As a Senior Quality Engineer, you’ll play a key role in embedding quality throughout the development lifecycle. Working side by side with engineering teams, you’ll drive robust automation, meaningful coverage, and reliable releases — helping us continuously raise the bar for engineering excellence as we scale.
Your way to impact
You will be the quality engineering voice inside POS feature teams, helping them catch defects early, building automation that runs in CI/CD pipelines, and ensuring every feature ships with the coverage and confidence merchants depend on. Your impact will be felt in the reliability of the POS product and in the engineering maturity of the teams you work with day-to-day.
Your day-to-day
Design, build, and maintain automated test suites for PayPal POS across iOS and Android, covering feature tests, P0 regression, and end to end scenarios using mobile automation frameworks.
Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring pre-approval, post-approval, and post-merge quality gates are reliable, fast, and actionable.
Maintain and update mock-based test infrastructure, including pre-recorded API mocks, to keep pipeline execution stable and independent of environment availability.
Partner with feature engineers from story creation through delivery, contributing to acceptance criteria, identifying test type requirements (unit, snapshot, functional, end-to-end), and flagging quality risks early.
Execute and triage manual tests on an exception basis, with clear documentation on why automation was not feasible and a plan to close the gap.
Track and report quality signals within your domain and drive improvements based on what the data shows
Contribute to AI-assisted quality practices within your domain, including AI-generated test case review, test gap analysis, and automated coverage checks as they roll out across the POS pipelines.
Guide and support junior QE engineers on the team, reviewing test code, sharing automation best practices, and helping them grow.
What you need to succeed
5+ years in quality engineering with a track record of owning automation within a product domain
Solid hands-on expertise in mobile automation for iOS and Android. This is the primary technical bar for the role. Experience with XCUITest, Appium, Espresso, UIAutomator, or equivalent frameworks.
Experience writing and maintaining automation frameworks, not just executing existing test suites
Experience with BrowserStack or equivalent device farm for test execution and test management
Ability to operate with minimal day-to-day supervision, make sound technical decisions within your domain, and proactively surface risks to engineering and QE leadership
Get bonus points with...
Experience contributing to a QA-to-QE transition on a team, you've seen what the shift looks like in practice.
Background in payment, fintech, POS, or hardware-adjacent product environments, understanding the testing challenges of hardware/software systems will be an advantage here.
