Own quality for Agilent's automation ecosystem by ensuring every solution from instruments and robotics to orchestration software and autonomous workflows deliver reliable, interoperable, customer-ready outcomes at scale.
The Software Test Manager is responsible for leading quality engineering, validation, and release readiness across the APS portfolio. This role ensures that automation platforms, workflow software (LIMS/ELN/LES), liquid handling systems, and integrated customer workflows meet performance, reliability, compliance, and interoperability requirements. This role partners closely with R&D, Product Management, Systems Engineering, Program Management, and external partners to establish a scalable automation quality strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Strategy & Leadership
Define and execute the APS quality and test strategy across hardware, software, and integrated workflow solutions.
Build and lead a global quality engineering organization aligned to APS growth priorities.
Drive quality culture, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Drive shift-left mindset.
Automation & Continuous Testing
Lead implementation of automated testing capabilities across software and workflow solutions.
Drive continuous integration and continuous test execution practices.
Improve test coverage, release velocity, defect containment, and predictability.
Support Agile development teams with embedded quality engineering practices.
Ecosystem Interoperability
Define validation approaches for multi-vendor automation environments.
Ensure products comply with automation readiness standards and interoperability requirements.
Validate integrations with partner instruments, robotics, software platforms, and orchestration layers.
Support ecosystem partnership programs through qualification and certification
Program Execution
Partner with Product Managers and Engineering leaders to establish release quality objectives and success criteria.
Provide executive visibility into product quality, risks, and release readiness.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities for significant quality events.
Support strategic initiatives including automation readiness, orchestration capabilities, and autonomous workflow programs.
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure applicable software and automation products comply with relevant regulatory requirements and quality standards, such as CFR 21part 11
Drive validation documentation, audit readiness, and traceability practices.
Partner with Quality and Regulatory organizations on risk-based testing approaches.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Bioengineering, or related discipline.
10+ years of experience in software testing, systems validation, automation engineering, or quality management.
3+ years of leadership experience.
Experience leading global cross-functional teams.
Strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and software development lifecycles.
Experience with test automation frameworks and CI/CD environments.
Demonstrated success driving quality improvements in complex product portfolios.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with laboratory automation, robotics, liquid handling, analytical instrumentation, or scientific software.
Experience validating integrated hardware-software systems.
Experience with risk-based testing of software with high degrees of freedom or complex compatibility matrices.
Experience embedding AI technology in software testing.
Knowledge of cloud platforms, APIs, workflow orchestration, and SaaS applications.
Understanding of regulated environments and computerized system validation.
Familiarity with AI-enabled software products and autonomous workflow systems.
Additional Details

The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $127,680.00 - $199,500.00/yr plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
