A Day in the Life
We are seeking a strategic and transformational finance leader to serve as the Senior Finance Director for the Global R&D Finance Center of Excellence (CoE). The CoE is expected to grow and mature to support the full enterprise and this role will be instrumental in leading that transformation, standing up the next phase of the model—driving expanded adoption of standardized financial planning, reporting, and decision support across enterprise R&D.
This leader will operate at the center of innovation—partnering closely with Portfolio and Operating Unit (OU) CFOs to accelerate adoption of CoE standards and ways of working, ensuring consistency, scalability, and enterprise alignment. Supported by a global team of approximately +15 finance professionals and growing. This leader will lead the vision, define priorities, and drive execution of the CoE roadmap—ensuring the organization delivers today while building toward a more scalable, standardized future state.
Success in this role will require balancing transformation and execution—continuing to deliver high-quality outputs while embedding a more consistent, enterprise-wide model. The role will also partner closely with the Digital Transformation team on exciting new reporting, analytics and streamlined financial workflows.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Enterprise Leadership & Strategy
Lead and evolve the R&D Finance CoE operating model, driving enterprise-wide standardization and scalability
Serve as a key finance partner to the Innovation leadership team
Helps to enable R&D investment strategies and standardized inputs to enterprise priorities and innovation goals
FP&A and Digital Transformation Reporting
Oversee AOP and forecast processes across global R&D portfolios
Drive adoption of standardized, dashboard-based reporting (e.g., Day 5 packages)
Lead data governance, financial tagging, and systems integration (e.g., ENRICH, OneStream, Power BI)
Enable real-time financial visibility and streamlined reporting processes
Operating Model Execution
Lead transition of decentralized R&D finance teams into the CoE structure
Strengthen collaboration between CoE and Operating Unit finance teams
Balance enterprise consistency with portfolio-specific business needs
Business Partnership & Decision Support
Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across technology, clinical, and regulatory functions
Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for executive decision-making
Governance & Performance Management
Establish and maintain financial governance and accountability across R&D investments (labor rates, data tagging, and project planning).
Drive continuous improvement in financial processes and decision-making frameworks
Global Team Leadership
Lead and develop a high-performing, globally distributed finance team
Build organizational capability in analytics, business partnering, and executive communication
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years of work experience in Finance including FP&A and operations finance (Or Advanced Degree with 13+ years) plus 10+ years of managerial experience
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience leading large-scale transformation or centralized operating models
Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, including C-suite leaders
Experience supporting technology, R&D, clinical, or regulatory functions in a global organization
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing, international teams
Enterprise mindset with the ability to think strategically and execute operationally
Strong collaborator who builds trust across complex, matrixed organizations
Decisive and action-oriented, with a focus on outcomes (“progress over perfection”)
Effective communicator who simplifies complexity for executive audiences
Passion for developing talent and building scalable organizations
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$204,800.00 - $307,200.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.
