Job Description
Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.
Product Strategy, Manager– Patient Engagement
We are looking for a Product Strategy & Insights Lead to join our Patient Engagement Product Strategy team at athenahealth. This role sits within the Product organization and partners closely with Product Management, Marketing, Sales, Analytics, and Corporate Strategy.
The Product Strategy role provides critical analytical and strategic support across all stages of product development—from early opportunity identification through launch and post-launch evaluation. This role interfaces with senior leaders, engages with in-market customer and usage data, and helps bridge connectivity between R&D, Sales, Marketing, and Service.
This role is charged with turning data, research, and market signals into actionable strategic insights that inform what we build, who we serve, and how we grow. You will support the strategic development and execution guidance of patient engagement growth initiatives while helping ensure our product strategy and market narrative are grounded, credible, and differentiated.
But enough about us; let’s talk about you.
You are a curious, analytically strong strategist who enjoys working through ambiguity and turning imperfect information into clear insights and recommendations. You are energized by digging into data, understanding customer behavior, identifying patterns, and telling compelling stories that influence decisions. You are comfortable operating across multiple priorities and partnering closely with cross-functional teams to drive clarity and momentum.
In this role, you must have or quickly develop healthcare industry knowledge, applying that insight to identify industry trends, evaluate the competitive landscape, and surface opportunities to better meet client needs. You are expected to translate those opportunities into well-researched, defensible analyses and business inputs that inform product strategy and go-to-market decisions.
Job Responsibilities
Partner with the Director of Product Strategy to support development of product-market strategy, business cases, and growth opportunities for patient engagement offerings.
Gather, analyze, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data, including product usage, client analytics, market research, and customer insights.
Collaborate with Product Analytics and Client Analytics to define and interpret KPIs, insights, and performance trends, translating findings into strategic implications.
Support market sizing, opportunity assessment, and financial analysis (e.g., TAM/SAM/SOM) for new initiatives, enhancements, and strategic bets.
Analyze industry trends, competitive landscapes, and emerging market dynamics to inform strategic recommendations.
Partner with cross-functional leaders in Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Service to provide data-backed inputs into roadmap, positioning, and go-to-market planning.
Support development and refinement of value propositions, positioning, and market narratives, ensuring claims are grounded in data and customer reality.
Contribute to launch readiness and post-launch evaluation by assessing performance, adoption, and customer impact.
Synthesize client and market learnings into clear, executive-ready materials that support strategic decision-making.
Support strategic initiatives related to partnerships, adjacencies, or future growth exploration as needed.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; MA, MBA, or equivalent experience in Product Strategy, Business, Healthcare, Analytics, or related fields.
5+ years of experience in a product strategy, product management, consulting, analytics, or strategy role; healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data, conduct research, and synthesize insights into clear recommendations.
Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces with limited or imperfect data.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to tell clear stories with data, craft executive-ready materials, and influence without authority.
Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, or Analytics teams.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities simultaneously.
Expected Compensation
$116,000 - $196,000
