Mobile Software Engineer, Tech Foundations

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way. The Community You Will Join The Quality Platform team is at the heart of Airbnb’s mission to deliver a seamless, high-quality experience for millions of hosts and guests. We don’t just find bugs — we build the systems that prevent them. Our team sits at the intersection of Quality Engineering, Infrastructure, and Applied AI. We are evolving how software quality is built by integrating LLMs, intelligent automation, and data-driven systems into the testing lifecycle. You will join a high-impact group of engineers focused on building AI-powered quality systems that scale across one of the world’s most complex codebases. The Difference You Will Make: As a Mobile Software Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the development of our Quality Platform across both native mobile stacks. You will help build the foundation for how quality is engineered across Airbnb's iOS and Android ecosystems, developing tools and frameworks that enable our mobile platform to scale while keeping developers productive and confident, regardless of which platform they build on. In this role, you will: Build AI-Driven Solutions: Contribute to AI-native agents that automate repetitive testing tasks and provide intelligent feedback to developers on both platforms.Deliver Scalable Infrastructure: Develop and maintain the high-scale platforms and testing environments used daily by the iOS and Android engineering organizations.Promote Engineering Craft: Implement best-in-class mobile patterns and modularity to improve testability and fault-tolerance across both native codebases.Contribute to Operational Excellence: Ensure our automated systems are performant and reliable, making data-driven decisions to optimize the CI/CD lifecycle for both platforms. A Typical Day Deliver Technical Excellence: Design and sustain foundational testing frameworks in Swift and Kotlin, emphasizing high performance and developer-centric reliability. Deploy Intelligent Automation: Integrate LLM-powered solutions to drive autonomous test discovery and smart orchestration across our native mobile ecosystems. Architect Quality by Design: Partner with cross-functional mobile teams to eliminate bottlenecks and ensure robust quality is integrated into the earliest stages of development. Modernize Infrastructure: Scale distributed testing systems to optimize the CI/CD lifecycle, effectively reducing build latency for both iOS and Android stacks. Drive R&D Initiatives: Work alongside Research and Data Science units to prototype next-generation tools that redefine software quality engineering. Elevate Engineering Standards: Participate in deep-dive code reviews and the Quality Guild to advocate for best-in-class mobile patterns across the organization. Your Expertise Experience: Up to 4+ years of professional mobile development experience in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment. Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of both Kotlin/Android SDK and Swift/iOS SDK, with experience using modern build tools (Gradle, Xcode). Framework Development: Demonstrated experience building or extending test automation frameworks (e.g., Espresso, Compose Test, XCUITest) and mobile infrastructure. Platform Mindset: A passion for building tools and SDKs that serve other engineers and improve the developer experience across platforms. AI Curiosity: An eagerness to learn and apply AI/LLMs to solve complex engineering and quality challenges. Execution & Ownership: Demonstrated ability to navigate complex codebases and take ownership of features or components from implementation to deployment. Communication: Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse technical and product teams. Our Commitment To Inclusion & Belonging: Airbnb is committed to working with the broadest talent pool possible. We believe diverse ideas foster innovation and engagement, and allow us to attract creatively-led people, and to develop the best products, services and solutions. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. We strive to also provide a disability inclusive application and interview process. If you are a candidate with a disability and require reasonable accommodation in order to submit an application, please contact us at: reasonableaccommodations@airbnb.com. A Note on Recruiting Scams: Scammers sometimes pose as Airbnb recruiters to get money or personal information from candidates. A few things that will always be true for Airbnb’s hiring process: our open roles are posted on Airbnb’s Career’s Page at careers.airbnb.com, and our recruiters correspond only from @airbnb.com or @ext.airbnb.com email addresses. Our recruiters will never ask for your Social Security number, bank account details, passport, or payment app information while you are interviewing. We’ll also never ask you to pay a fee, send money, deposit or cash a check, or purchase work-related equipment (such as a company laptop) during the interview process. We encourage candidates to remain vigilant of these recruiting scams and not share sensitive information if you do not believe an individual is actually affiliated with Airbnb.
