The Role: We're looking for a Head of Engineering and Product Development to lead our product and engineering function — owning the full journey from customer requirements through to delivered, high-quality software. This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll spend around 20% of your time in the codebase—setting technical direction, unblocking complex problems, and staying close to the detail. The rest of your focus is on leadership: owning the engineering roadmap and building, coaching, and leading a high-performing team of ~20 across engineering, business analysis, and QA. You’ll partner closely with the CEO on technology strategy and work alongside our experienced Product Manager, who retains ownership of product direction. We're at an inflection point. AI is fundamentally reshaping how software gets built — and we need someone who can help us navigate the snakes and ladders. That means understanding where AI accelerates delivery, where it introduces new risks, and how to evolve our team's capabilities as the landscape shifts. You'll lead our transformation to an AI-augmented delivery model, making pragmatic bets while keeping us grounded in what actually works. You'll be a core member of the leadership team, working closely with colleagues across the business and directly with customers to ensure what we build genuinely solves their problems. Key Responsibilities AI & Transformation Lead our transition to AI-augmented software delivery Evaluate and adopt AI tools and practices where they genuinely accelerate outcomes Help the team adapt their skills and ways of working as the landscape shifts Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and grow a team of ~20 across engineering, business analysis, and QA Hire well, set clear expectations, and create an environment where people do their best work Build team capability and resilience as the nature of software delivery evolves Product Delivery Own the end-to-end delivery of our product — from requirements through to production Set and maintain quality standards; ensure we ship software that works and that customers love Balance speed, scope, and quality pragmatically; unblock the team when trade-offs get hard Technical Leadership Stay hands-on (~20% of your time) — contribute to architecture decisions, tackle complex problems, and keep your technical judgment sharp Own the engineering roadmap and technical direction Make sound technology choices that serve the business, not just the engineers Strategy & Leadership Team Partner with the CEO on technology strategy Facilitate the implementation of the Product Manager’s vision Represents the product and engineering function at the leadership table; contribute to company-wide decisions Technology Stack Experience in the following would be advantageous but not essential. .NET — VB.NET, C#, ASP.NET, WebForms Database — SQL Server Frontend — React Cloud — AWS (EC2, API Gateway) Python Tooling — Visual Studio, Jira, Bamboo, Stash You'll be pragmatic about evolving the stack where it makes sense, without chasing trends for their own sake.
