What you will have an opportunity to do:
JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: CHIEF ENGINEER
DIVISION: Maintenance & Grounds DEPARTMENT: Engineering
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering & Grounds CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for directing and managing all aspects of engineering, maintenance, and grounds operations for interior/exterior facilities including electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating, cooling, structural, ground care, and parking areas. Oversees all engineering operations necessary to maintain the property in an optimum and efficient condition to ensure the safety and comfort of guests and employees. Develops and administers preventive maintenance programs, manages departmental budgets, oversees capital improvement projects, ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, fire and life safety regulations, and provides leadership to the Engineering Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Directs and manages the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department and ensures all departmental standards are followed.
• Oversees the completion of daily preventive maintenance and corrective work orders, ensuring timely completion and accurate documentation. Ensures the efficient and effective completion of work orders by staff.
• Ensures prompt and immediate response to maintenance requests for guests.
• Maintains knowledge of the hotel features/services, hours of operation, daily house count, and expected arrivals/departures, etc. to ensure work orders are scheduled around critical times.
• Plans off-season projects and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Implements safety protocols.
• Reviews engineering logbooks prior to each shift and discusses operational priorities with management before delegating work assignments.
• Maintains the guest rooms and public areas in a first-class manner utilizing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
• Manages the Inn at Perry Cabin’s key control system.
• Inspects and maintains all building systems and life-safety to ensure minimum down-time, expense, and discomfort to our guests.
• Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, coaches, schedules, evaluates, and develops Engineering team members.
• Sets departmental standards for image, appearance, and grooming, ensuring the department represents the company professionally to guests, vendors, and outside organizations.
• Returns business calls the same day.
• Develops employee schedules and manages labor costs within approved budget guidelines.
• Oversees the maintenance of plumbing systems, grounds and landscaping, swimming pools and water features, HVAC systems, kitchen equipment, refrigeration systems, laundry equipment, electrical systems, and sewage systems.
• Develops and manages the Engineering Department operating budget and assists with capital expenditure planning.
• Coordinates outside contractors and vendor services to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
• Monitors utility consumption and implements energy conservation initiatives.
• Ensures employees maintain safe work practices in compliance with OSHA.
• Responds to hotel emergency situations and remains available for emergency calls on a 24-hour basis.

• Participates in daily line-ups, weekly or monthly meetings to ensure the hotel’s philosophy is known and energized by all staff members.
• Attends necessary meetings and functions to show support and provide input towards the success of the hotel.
• Assists other employees with their job functions to ensure optimum service to guests, when applicable.
• Fosters and promotes a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
• Anticipates guests’ needs, responds promptly, and acknowledges all guests at all times; and
• Performs all job functions, special projects and tasks assigned.
• Participate in the Manager on Duty (MOD) program.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Engineering Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians, Grounds personnel, and other Engineering associates. Responsible for hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action in accordance with company policies.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
• Previous leadership experience in a similar role
• Computer literate in Microsoft applications
• Engineering degree/diploma OR 3-5 years related experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques and mechanical assistance when appropriate.

• Moving mechanical equipment, live electrical systems, and other hazards commonly associated with engineering and maintenance operations.
• Employees are required to wear all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, eye protection, gloves, hard hats, and other safety equipment as required by company policy and OSHA regulations.
