2027 Spring Intern - Population Health Engagement Activation and Operations

The Population Health Center of Excellence is the driving force behind Genentech’s work to close care gaps, improve clinical outcomes and ensure our innovations reach more patients in more communities.
A high-impact opportunity to operationalize and help drive the external and enterprise-positioning of one of Genentech’s strategic initiatives–Population Health. This role will operate within Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) organization as part of the Population Health Center of Excellence, operationalizing our narrative and ensuring our enterprise-positioning resonates both internally across Genentech and externally with key healthcare stakeholders.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.
The Opportunity
This internship offers a unique vantage point into one of Genentech’s most critical strategic initiatives. You will gain deep exposure to the Population Health landscape, sharpen enterprise-level positioning skills, and play a direct role in how Genentech is perceived.
In this role, you will report to the Engagement Manager and partner closely with Corporate Communications and the Population Health leadership to:
Operationalize the Narrative: Take our strategic goals and build the tactical "how-to." You’ll develop the toolkits, messaging frameworks, and activation plans that bring our Population Health story to life.
Drive Multi-Channel Engagement: Design and execute engagement activities that reach diverse audiences, ensuring our positioning is compliant, consistent, inspirational, and effective.
Strategic Positioning: Act as a bridge between the CoE and broader CMG/Enterprise teams to ensure Population Health is integrated into our overarching internal and external identity.
Measure & Refine: Establish KPIs for engagement success, gathering feedback to continuously sharpen our communication tactics.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12 month, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in January (Spring).
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are (Required)
Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:
Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
Must have attained a Master's Degree.
Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
Must have attained a PhD.
Required Majors: Marketing communications, Strategic Communications, Public Health, Population Health, Corporate or Strategic Communications, Public Affairs, Public Relations, or related.
Required Skills:
A Connector: You thrive in the "matrix" and know how to navigate cross-functional teams to get things done.
A Master Communicator: You can take complex information and clinical or scientific concepts and turn them into a story that inspires action.
Multi-Channel Engagement Strategist: Knowledge of corporate communications best practices, audience segmentation, and multi-channel content activation across internal and external platforms.
Execution-Oriented: You don’t just ideate; you operationalize. You enjoy the process of building the systems behind a successful activation.
Agile & Proactive: You’re comfortable with ambiguity and ready to pivot in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
Healthcare & Population Health Ecosystem: Foundational understanding of public health strategy, health equity initiatives, clinical outcome improvement, and the US healthcare matrix.
Healthcare Communications & Compliance: Familiarity with regulatory, legal, and compliance standards within pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare commercial environments
Experience Designer: architect high-impact events that spark active audience engagement, deepen connection with community, and inspire leadership positioning
Digital & Collaboration Tools: Proficiency with modern project management applications (e.g., Monday.com) and enterprise communication software
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $24.00-$50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
